2165

2165. Celebrating seven years of marriage to Paul this evening.

2164. He sat next to me instead of across from me.

2163. Getting off to WalMart early this morning so we could get some errands done. And the kids were pretty good while we were there.

2162. We found the bug toy that Jonathan wanted (as a potty training reward) at the dollar store.

2161. Bathroom accidents occurring less frequently.

2160. Okay, I was just thinking today how glad I am that I am done with that period that lasts about six months after bringing home your first child. I am SO. GLAD.

2159. Browsing in a book store.

2158. Getting the top of the entertainment center cleaned.

2157. And then going to the Fly Lady site to see what today's mission was (because I hadn't done it yet,) and finding that cleaning the entertainment center is what I would have done for the mission anyway.

2156. And getting (and mounting) a new container to hold all the grocery bags in.

2155. Getting Lainee's CDs corralled in a new container on her headboard.

2154. The kids asked to do "homework" today, so I sat them at the kitchen table and gave them some "assignments" in their workbooks. This kept them content for quite a while.

2153. The Q's watched the kids tonight while Paul and I went out.

2152. And the kids were FANTASTIC for them.

2151. And all three of them went RIGHT TO SLEEP after we put them in bed.

2150. The other night after church, I saw a few weeds in a flower bed outside the church. I pulled them out. Lainee and Jonatha, who had helped with weeding on a previous workday, decided to pull the weeds in a larger bed. We were the last to leave the parking lot because Lainee was so into weeding. But we didn't get it all done, so she asked if we could go back later this week. Um, SURE!

2149. Bethany's expressions of excitement are so very cute. I love to see her excited.

2148. Barbequed chicken.

2147. Dark chocolate ice cream.

2146. The right blinker on the van just started working again the other day after not working for about four days.

2145. I got to do some quilting.

2144. Got to have lunch after church with Andrea and Melissa.

2143

2143. The boy used the toilet A LOT today. Yahoooo!

2142. And he got to select a reward candy at the drugstore for getting enough stickers on his chart.

2141. Lainee has been asking about when homeschooling will start. This is a good sign. She seems anxious to begin.

2140. Bethany and Lainee were both singing in the living room this evening. Bethany was dancing too. I love it!

2139. Got a bunch of weeding done.

2138. I am feeling motivated to get the house organized and to keep up on what is already cleaned.

2137. Lainee asked for a discipline chart this evening. She has been whiney lately and demanding. I think she kept seeing Jonathan's potty chart and wanted to do one of her own. We have done them before with her, and she responds very well to it. No rewards or anything, just putting a sticker on it when she obeys and and "X" when she disobeys (including whining, backtalking, etc...) I am glad she remembered. It is already making a difference.

2136. Theresa told a friend our story of adopting Bethany and about our view of the finances for that. She believes her friend was blessed by it. I am glad about that.

2135. Boo had a friend over today. They played so nicely together for over three hours. What a blessing.

2134

Last night, after Bethany was in bed, Lainee summoned Paul, Jonathan, and me into the living room. She sat us all down on the couch and handed each of us handmade presents she had made from paper, glue, and some markers (2130.) She instructed us to open them one at a time. I was to go first. So I opened my purse, as she called it (it was really an envelope she'd made,) and found two pieces of paper folded lengthwise and tied with black ribbon (that she had pilfered from my stash.) As I opened each, she told me what they were. The first was a "measurer" (ruler???) which had numbers listed down it. The second was a drawing of some flowers, which she described to me. After I was done, it was Jonathan's turn. He got a measurer too. He was so excited. "Look, Lainee made me a measurer!" he exclaimed. He seemed genuinely grateful (2131.) He also got a picture of two bugs and a truck. Cute that Lainee tried to draw things she thought he'd like (2132.) On the back was his name and a smiley face. While Paul was opening his presents, Jonathan was telling me "look, mom, these are bugs, and this is a truck." And when we turned it over I said, "Look, your name is on it." Then, pointing to the smiley, he said, "that's me!" He kept thanking Lainee for the gifts (2133.) The whole thing was just too sweet (2134.)

2129. Tonight I got to snuggle with the boy. And that never, never gets old. Never.

2128. Bethany has become quite the snuggler too. She will lay perfectly still if I gently scratch her back or her arms or something. PERFECTLY. STILL.

2127. The kitchen floor has been mopped.

2126. Someone was blessed by something I wrote.

2125. SH said something to me today that blessed my heart.

2124. I found a cucumber growing in the "garden" today. My first one!

2123

2123. Making peach pie with Lainee.

2122. Eating peach pie with ice cream.

2121. Air conditioning.

2120. Getting the kitchen cleaned up after dinner.

2119. Snuggling with Jonathan while we napped on the couch.

2118. A cup of coffee.

2117. A friend at church just had her first baby. It's a girl!

2116. Jonathan falling asleep at the table during dinner. I got a picture of it...but Blogger is being a pain.

2115. I found the "snuggle bunny" that Jonathan wanted for bed tonight. He was all worked up and it calmed him right down. A miracle I found it... I haven't even seen it in weeks!

2114. This post.

2113. Chicken for dinner. Soooooo moist and yummy.

2112. The power that went out this evening, came back on fairly quickly.

2111. We have had no troubles even though the rain is causing flooding elsewhere.

2110. Ice cream on sale: a half gallon for a dollar.

2109. Glorifying God and finding joy in him are one in the same.

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

2108

2108.My baby girl fell asleep in my arms tonight after waking up, scared, during a loud storm. Praise God. There were days not too long ago that I wondered if she'd ever want me to do those kinds of mommy things for her.

2107. The crock pot stopped working when I switched it to "high" for the last hour before we ate dinner. I wasn't sure what to do with the pork roast inside b/c is seemed like it didn't get hot enough all the way through. Paul just said "slice it up and we can put it on the grill." So we did. And it was great!

2106. And Jonathan and Lainee ate corn and green beans and the pork. Happily. They even wanted more. What a pleasant dinner that was.

2105. My kitchen counters are clear again.

2104. There may be a ministry opportunity (already?) for me at church.

2103. Lainee was crying today and Bethany tried to comfort her by rubbing her on the head.

2102. Paul made French toast for lunch for everyone.

2101. We all went to story time together today.

2100. I got the folded laundry on top of the dryer put away.

2099. I found this website.

2098. I got to talk to Helen last night.

2097. Bethany plays a game with me in which she walks out of the room waving and I say "goodbye." It has evolved to the point that she doesn't leave without first getting a kiss (and sometimes a hug too.)

2096. I posted on the other blog about my vain imagination and how I had to ask someone to forgive me for holding something against them... something that I don't even know if they did. Anyway, I had a great conversation with her today at church. And I think I realized that my imagination got a few things wrong. Go figure.

2095. I slept great last night.

2094. And I slept great this afternoon for a long time. P, J, and L were gone. B was sleeping. YaHOOOOOOOO!

2093. Rain.

2092

2092. I found my car keys!

2091. I learned today that Paul gave word to the folks at church that we will no longer be teaching the Singles' Sunday school class. I felt like the decision ultimately was his to make, but I didn't know what he'd decided until the church secretary called to ask what SS class we wanted to be enrolled in. I feel a bit bummed about it. I absolutely loved that class. Loved. it. The blessing in this is that I already sense God will be teaching me something through this change, despite the sadness I feel about it.

2090. Making a spider craft with Jonathan and Lainee today.

2089. And hearing Jonathan compliment me and Lainee on the great job we were doing.

2088. The boy went most of the day in his swim trunks with no diaper underneath. He used the toilet several times. I don't know if his trunks were always wet from the water, but I am not complaining.

2087. Jonathan's excitement over the stickers for his potty chart. I love that he can get excited about something so simple.

2086. J and B went to bed before Lainee tonight. So she taught (read: made up as she went along) a game that she had made. I consisted of buttons for game pieces, a game board, and two different kinds of cards. We were laughing so hard by the time it was over. She had a great time, and so did we.

2085. Helping someone with chemistry today. And remembering a very important concept, totally "out of the blue," that saved us when we couldn't solve a problem correctly.

2084. Air conditioning.

2083. Going for a walk with the kids.

2082. Paul found out he doesn't have to work tomorrow, as originally planned.

2081. I got the vinyl fence cleaned today.

2080. And I got me some replacement parts for it too!

2079. Applesauce with cinnamon.

2078. The creative web that Lainee made today for her spider to sit on.

Monday, July 24, 2006

2077

2077. Playing with the kids at the riverscape.

2076. Getting ice cream afterward.

2075. Napping.

2074. Corn on the cob.

2073. And hearing Jonathan tell me that it was the best corn on the cob I'd ever made.

2072. And then telling me that I am really smart because he liked the steak we had too. (Which was humorous, because Paul made the steak.)

2071. That boy says "thank you" a lot too, and it blesses my heart every time I hear it.

2070. Milk.

2069. Cherries.

2068. Two of the neighbor kids came over this afternoon and played hose tag with Lainee in the front yard.

2067. The kids' pediatrician.

2066. Paul has been doing all the laundry. I haven't done any since before I left for Alabama.

2065

2065. Eating dinner with a family from church.

2064. Sitting in the service tonight with Lainee and having my arm around her as I sang hymns.
2063. And letting her lean against me while she slept through the service!

2062. My husband makes some extra money working with his dad this summer.

2061. My bed.

2060. A hot fudge sundae.

2059. Being in the car on the way home from Alabama and being able to DO something that I have been only thinking about up to this point. Doing something is so much more productive than just thinking about it!

2058. Change. Some minor ones are looming, and one major one too. But having peace about change makes change a good thing.

2057. Three children who all WALK! It felt SO good to walk out of church today and I didn't have to CARRY ANYONE!

Sunday, July 23, 2006

2056

2056. Pancakes.

2055. A toasted bagel with a fried egg, fried ham, and a slice of American cheese. YUM.

2054. Seeing Bethany walk. Everywhere.

2053. The assurance I have that God is always out for my good, even if the circumstances don't feel good.

Saturday, July 22, 2006

2052

2052. Snuggling with the boy.

2051. Telling Bethany's adoption story again this evening.

2050. A party with some church friends.

2049. Where there were really good cheese burgers.

2048. Finding blank lesson plan templates that were free on the internet.

2047. Hearing Lainee count the numbers on a page up to 49.

2046. Brownies.

2045. A nap.

2044. Watching Bethany warm up to the environment at the party, and become comfortable with venturing out and having fun on her own.

2043. The image I have in my head of Jonathan running around the front yard today. He was wearing his spider costume and Lainee's bike helmet. He told me he was a "Bengals football play" and he wanted me to come out and play football with him. We ran around the yard, and watching him was just so funny.

2042. Today in our game of tag, the kids would choose to be an animal every time they were "it." They were picking ferocious animals, I guess because it meant they could growl when they chased us. Paul and I played along with that for a while. So, whenever someone would announce what animal they were, Jonathan would immediately scream "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, a BEAR!!!!" (or whatever the animal was,) then procede to run all over the yard. I decided to get a little goofy after a while. So, the next time I was tagged, I declared that I was a carp. Without a moment's hesitation, Jonathan screamed "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH, A CARP!" I just thought that was so ridiculously funny that I screamed myself, from laughing so hard.

2041. We've got three tomatoes on the plant outside. Yipee!

2040

2040. Being reminded to sing to God in Sunday school last week.

2039. Driving through Kentucky and looking at the most beautiful, bright green trees against a perfectly blue sky.

2038. Then singing to God about how good he is to me.

2037. And laughing at myself because it was SO BAD... and enjoying my God, who didn't care. Freedom from perfectionism before God is very refreshing.

2036. Getting two hugs and kisses from my husband in the church parking lot before leaving on my trip. He seemed sad, saying he was going to miss me. It's nice to be missed, but somehow it is even nicer to be missed before you are even gone.

2035. A safe ride to Alabama.

2034. Feeling tired before I stopped for dinner, but feeling completely energized after I was done and for the rest of the drive.

2033. My husband, telling me to take my time when I returned home. Saying, "everything here is fine."

2032. Then coming home to a clean house and three kids sleeping so sweetly!

2031. Playing tag in the front yard with my whole family today.

2030. Camping out in the living room with Paul, Lainee, and Jonathan.

2029. Boomama

2028. Addie

2027. Robin

2026. Theresa

2025. Laughing. HARD!

2024. Getting to know people IRL that I have become endeared to in the blogosphere.

2023. Those girls let me talk out my ear and didn't get offended by the stuff I was spewing.

2022. And Boomama, who seemed to know when to speak and when to be quiet, said something very simple that really, REALLY spoke to me.

2021. Riding around on an air-conditioned bus and getting a tour of Savannah.

2020. Eating at a famous restaurant.

2019. Collard Greens.

2018. Fried green tomatoes.

2017. Free cookie samples.

2016. God giving me a love for some folks that might not make sense to other people, but totally makes sense in Him.

2015. Swimming in a pool without having to worry about my kids drowning or having to "watch this" every 30 seconds.

2014. A great nap.

2013. Staying up late, talking with "the girls." It happened on Tuesday night in Savannah, and again last night with the scrapbooking ladies.

2012. And even though I'd been gone most of the week, my husband acted like it was no big deal for me to leave again last night.

2011. Ami.

2010. Elisabeth.

2009. Deana.

2008. Libby.

2007. Getting a good meal and great conversation with them before Elisabeth moves to Virginia.

2006. A friend is getting ready to bring her son home from Guatemala.

2005. Watching the history channel late at night alone in a hotel room.

2004. My whole family woke up this morning. Everyone is here. Everyone is healthy.

2003. And speaking of healthy, Paul came down with some sort of flu on Monday, while I was away. But, by Tuesday he was "doing great" and it blessed my heart to hear him say that.

2002. And he even found a way to get out in the mornings for his run.

2001. Bethany ate some meat at dinner last night. This may seem minor, but it sure made me feel better!

2000. Telling people the story about how we came to the decision to adopt Bethany. I could tell that story a million times and not get tired of it.

1999. Bethany is saying several words now, and apparently even started saying "grandpa" while I was gone.

1998. Wrestling in the living room with the whole family today.

1997. Being goofy with Lainee. I don't do that enough, but she LOVES it when I do.

1996. Talking with L and J about how we will start doing school next month. I am getting excited.

1995. I found two more books I want to read.

1994. I got the "circle book" from the girls in the mail recently. Reading the latest from everyone is so fun.

1993. I got a letter from Shalee too!

1992. She is an encourager if ever there was one. Me gusta encouragement.

1991. I got a cell phone for the trip and it worked out great.

1990. I got home safely from my trip too!

Friday, July 14, 2006

1989

1989. I totally forgot that I saw a rainbow while I was in CT.

1988. Introspection before the Lord.

1987. Learning to talk with God while reading Scripture.

1986. Vacuumed the living room and the family room.

1985. Time by myself while Paul took the older kids swimming and Bethany napped.

1984. Mulling things over... in God's presence.

1983. I get to meet Boomama, Addie, Robin, and Theresa. All last minute, but I am very excited.

1982. I get to travel by myself and take my time about it.

1981. Everyday Mommy has been quite gracious to me, of late. She is letting me pick her brain. Enjoying her thoughts.

1980. I don't have to cook dinner tonight. Paul just called and asked if I wanted to bring the kids to the VBS picnic at the church his dad pastors. Well, I was just wondering what to make for dinner, so, um, YEAH!

1979. And the added bonus is that we get to hang out with the family too.

1978. Bethany actually seemed to enjoy her bath last night. First one in a while where she hasn't screamed through the whole thing, clinging to me, and begging to get out.

1977. Jonathan did a sweet thing today. He pulled up an extra chair at the table when we were trying to fit another person in.

1976. I napped.

1975. The ice cream man.

1974. I made chocolate chip cookies with Paul the other night after the kids went to bed.

1973. Paul was totally cool with the idea of me going to Birmingham, even though it is last minute. He almost acted like it was a no-brainer that I would go. He knew how much it meant to me.

1972. My sink is clear.

1971. My laundry is caught up.

1970. As part of the long range planning team at church, I am helping to compile the results of a recent survey. The results have me thinking about some things and are giving me a perspective that I think I haven't had before.

1969. Paul giving me some perspective and a helpful reminder when I got a little miffed at someone.

1968. Being reminded that I really do need God. I get into these funks where I think I can just be "smart" and everything will be fine. Then I get reminded that I am not to be trusted, and I know I need to submit my ways to God.

1967. I figured out the cell phone that I got for emergencies. Now, hopefully, I will remember to keep it charged and I will not accidentally dial 911 or have it ring in the middle of church or something.

1966. Chocolate ice cream that is HARD!

1965. My pen pal.

1964. I got the oil changed on the car.

1963. And the tires rotated. (We were about 2500 miles overdue for both!!!)

1962. And Bethany was fairly manageable for the two hours we had to wait for those things to get done.

1961. Lainee staged a birthday party for her baby doll yesterday. Complete with a batch of brownies that she baked and a candle.

1960. Jigsaw puzzles.

1959. I found my sunglasses.

1958. Bethany: sucking on one corner of her snuggler, while placing another corner up her right nostril. For whatever reason, she finds this comforting. I just think it is cute.

1957. Rain.

1956. Having Mary Lou to laugh and chat with while we worked on some survey stuff in the church office.

1955. A big bottle of cold water for 50 cents at the Dollar Store.

1954. New hair clips.

1953. Single subject notebooks for 8 cents at Meijer.

1952. And two reward certificates to redeem on my last trip there.

1951. Not using paper towels isn't really as inconvenient as I thought it would be.

Tuesday, July 11, 2006

1950

1950. A nap on the couch with Bethany on my chest.

1949. English muffins.

1948. Getting the laundry caught up.

1947. And the kitchen floor mopped.

1946. And the counters cleared.

1945. And the bathroom cleaned up.

1944. And especially for the hour of peace that I got to do all those things while Paul took L and J swimming, and Bethany napped. (This was before she woke up crying and went back to sleep with me on the couch!)

1943. Getting some pictures, which I have had since February, into envelopes and sent to people.

1942. Stumbling across a book I've had that I have been wanting to finish reading, but had forgotten about.

1941. I found my other flip flop! Yay!

Sunday, July 09, 2006

1940

1940. Five more people baptized at church today.

1939. Lainee's fever and sore throat are gone.

1938. I got a BUNCH of laundry done today.

1937. I am reading another book. It's short. That is a blessing.

1936. A hot turkey sub at the local pizza joint this evening.

1935. Dishes are out of the sink.

1934. A new visitor to the other blog.

1933. Everyone (but me) is asleep and it is only 10:01. WooHOOO! Party... quietly, of course.

1932. Today was peaceful. I stayed home from church with Lainee. She played a new computer game and I was able to get some stuff done around the house. This evening, Paul took Bethany to the evening service. Jonathan was napping. So, Lainee and I sat out on the front porch and I painted her nails.

1931. Snuggling Bethany out on the lawn this afternoon.

1930. Help, again, from Heather with a new graphic for my blog.

1929. Painting my own toe nails.

Saturday, July 08, 2006

1928

1928. Bethany did me some unusual, but welcomed, snuggling before bed this evening.

1927. She is walking a lot more. I think she is more willing to try now that she is back in the security of her own home.

1926. Paul and I introduced her to the 1-2-3 game tonight. The one in which we walk with her, each holding a hand, and count 1-2-3. Then we lift her up and swing her out in front of us. She was delighted to play, repeatedly.

1925. Visiting with the Quillens.

1924. Helping someone with her chemistry today. Feels good to dust off the ol' noggin and use some of that chemistry knowledge that is buried in there.

1923. Groceries.

1922. Mom called to see how we are all doing. She said that she and dad think their house is too quiet now.

1921. Making play clay, and the sheer delight this simple thing creates in my children.

1920. The strawberries I bought today were really, really good.

1919. The kids TV dinners that were on sale today at the grocery store. I bought three so we could have an easy dinner night while Paul is away.

1918. The smell of kids who have just been bathed.

1917. Jonathan is beginning to animate things when he speaks. Currently, he is into bending at the knees and wiggling them in and out as if he is trying to knock his knees together. It is so funny looking. And it looks even funnier when his shoes are on the wrong feet - which is often, by the way.

1916. I installed a computer game that my mom gave me. It is really cute (some of it is even funny,) and I think the kids enjoy working on it.

1915. OH! I forgot! The tea party we all had at my parents' house. Lainee was beside herself, she was so excited about it.

Friday, July 07, 2006

1914

1914. Sitting on the "wall" outside the Sheetz gas station last night, eating dessert with Jonathan and Bethany, who got hers all over herself.

1913. Last night at dinner, we ordered the fish for Bethany, and Lainee ordered a peanut butter sandwich. When the meals were served, Bethany wanted nothing to do with the fish, and Lainee suddenly didn't want the sandwich. Thankfully, Bethany loved the sandwich, and Lainee was happy to eat the fish.

1912. Arriving safely in CT. I forgot to put that on my list. Duh!

1911. Yesterday we drove 423 miles in 8 hours, without major kid troubles.

1910. We had a gift card for Shell with us on the trip. It came in handy when we had to take that detour around the flooding... the only gas station at the exit where we had to get off was, you guessed it, a Shell.

1909. Jonathan sweetly offered to fix the curtain for Lainee yesterday when she complained of the sun being in her eyes.

1908. Getting an appointment for Lainee without having to alter our departure plans too dramatically.

1907. The doctor was SO nice. He even got Lainee to giggle.

1906. And when I called back today to get the results of her strep test, he answered the phone. He remembered us and asked me how Lainee was doing.

1905. Mom and Dad packed up with a serious snack stash for our trip home.

1904. And before we left, Dad made eggs, sausage, and pancakes for brunch.

1903. I didn't clean anything for a week and a half. I probably should have done more at my parents' house. But I was a slacker. (Maybe being a slacker shouldn't be considered a blessing?!)

1902. I didn't cook anything for a week and a half either.

1901. Patti graciously put up with two restless sleepers in her room for all that time too.

1900. And my parents gave up their bed for me and Paul to sleep in.

1899. Recent conversation with Lainee:
Me: (Looking at Lainee and wondering where my little baby went) How did you get so big?
Lainee: BIRTHDAYS!

1898. Playing with Bethany and Jonathan on the bed at the hotel and listening to them giggle.

1897. Watching B try to immitate J.

1896. The Q's, who picked up our mail and watered our plants.

1895. The Smiths. Nice visit with them tonight.

1894. The rabbits we all saw on the lawn at the hotel. All three of the kids got so excited about it.

1893. Kids who nap while we are driving.

1892. Tears for Fears.

1891. The chocolate mousse tortes my sisters bought to share with us after the kids went to bed.

1890. Artichokes.

1889. When we got home, Lainee went straight to the back yard. She came to me all excited because some of the sugar snap peas had grown. Three. Each kid picked (and ate) one.

1888. Seeing Bethany and Jonathan hug each other this evening.

1887. I finished another book last week. Now I am back on track for reading one book a month.

1886. We arrived home from CT safely.

1885. And I get to sleep in my own bed tonight.

Tuesday, July 04, 2006

1884

1869. After saying bedtime prayers last night, Jonathan and I were discussing the fireworks show he'd just been to. He explained that he lost his sippy cup under the van and started to get upset about the whole incident all over again. When I asked him if someone got the cup for him, he said, "yes." So I told him that was something to thank God for. Immediately, he said, "Mom, can we pray again?" I gave the obvious "of course" answer. He closed his eyes and said, "Dear God, thank you for this day. And thank you that someone got my sippy cup for me. Amen."

1868. About five minutes before the fireworks were to start, they sent up two small ones to let the crowd know it would be starting soon. Jonathan thought that was the entire show. But Lainee was in the bathroom at the time, so he got upset, thinking that Lainee had missed it. Not a blessing that my son was upset, but that he immediately thought of someone else and how upset she'd be if she'd missed it.
