2521

2521. Cherry cordial ice cream from UDF.

2520. Watching Jonathan get excited about matching up some letter cards.

2519. Being my babies' teacher.

2518. Remembering, before I bought it, that the curtains I was getting ready to buy were not the right size.

2517. Good gravy for the roast tonight.

2516. Bethany is remembering some of the silly noises that I make when I read one of her favorite bedtime books. I forgot to do it tonight... but she didn't. It was so cute.

2515. Kisses from Bethany. Will that ever get old?

2514. Good night kisses from Jonathan. And as I started to walk away, he reached out (over Paul) to make sure he got a hug too.

2513. Watching the kids give their good night hugs and kisses to each other.

2512. Jonathan ran down the aisle at Target last night into Lainee's arms and they both hugged each other.

2511. The hot water heater is still working.

2510. The furnace is still working.

2509. The washer and dryer are still working.

2508. The refrigerator is still working.

2507. Green beans from the O's garden that we ate at dinner tonight.

2506. And tomato #2 from our own garden.

2505

2505. Brownies.

2504. Bethany was much more manageable today during school time.

2503. Lainee is so excited about school. We did a science activity today and she just ate it up. She read her two writing projects to Paul as soon as he got home.

2502. Taco night. A hit once again. I have never seen Jonathan eat so willingly, and contentedly, everything on his plate. JOY!

2501. Half price scrapbooks at Hobby Lobby this week. I needed two for gifts.

2500. Bethany woke up "too early" this morning, and it cut my quiet time a bit short. But, I was able to leave her in her bed for a while without her fussing about it, so I did get to do a little Bible reading and praying.

2499. A call from Robin today.

2498. Hanging out at church for a little while today.

2497. Craft supplies on clearance.

2496. I actually remembered to take the meat out of the freezer for tomorrow's dinner. What? Who is this person living in my body?

2495. I taught Bethany what "Please don't pull on my shorts" means. She gets it. And she stops when I say that.

2494

2494. I got $25 off of our groceries tonight.

2493. And the other night, I had an uncomfortable feeling that the garbage I was about to put out had that coupon in it, as well as another voucher for a $10 coupon. I was right. What made me think to check the trash before I put it out? God, it seems. Because I would not have thought of it myself.

2492. Our first day of homeschooling went fairly well. The schedule needs some tweaking, but I am confident that God will work this out for us.

2491. I got up early and had a quiet time this morning. Nice.

2490. I've stopped asking God to "give" me patience, because I realize that, through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, He already has. But today I asked God to remind me to be patient. And he did.

2489. Quiche - to eat and to make, because I just happened to have everything I needed for it tonight... and those extra green onions didn't go to waste.

2488. God puts stuff on my mind to buy in advance at the grocery store. Like tonight when some snack food and juice were on sale, He reminded me that I will need to buy that stuff in a few weeks for when it's my turn to bring the kids' snacks for Bible study. See, He's watching out for me.

2487. Paul's meeting got moved to earlier this afternoon instead of this evening. That meant the grocery shopping schedule didn't have to be altered.

2486. Clearing out that shelf in the corner cabinet of the kitchen.

2485. Jonathan harvested our first tomato of the summer this evening. It was a tad under-ripe, but this being the last week of August, I am okay with that.

2484. The digital camera, which fell on a concrete walk and suffered a cracked (and now useless) LCD, still works with the viewfinder.

2483. Lainee likes to make Bethany laugh.

2482. And, maybe I am imagining this, but I think school has already had this maturing effect on her... Today she put her dishes in the dishwasher and put her clothes away without being asked. She did stuff like this all day long. Hmmmm.

2481

2481. Chatting with the folks in Sunday school before we started the last lesson as their teachers.

2480. Wonderful preaching this evening that reminded me I need to be honest about my sin and repent of it, not just feel bad about it.

2479. Preaching this morning which made me think that I should probably write out a mission statement for my life. And helped me to examine some of the emotions I am going through as we move on from teaching that class.

2478. Being honest before God about why things upset me, and what part I played in that, as opposed to dumping the blame for my feelings on other people.

2477. Finding Jonathan asleep in the bedroom - on the floor between two beds. And this not 10 minutes after he was trying to find a pair of shoes to wear. (There were two abandoned pairs lying next to him.)

2476. Hearing Bethany say "no." It is as clear as you please... and she sticks her little lips out in a circle when she says it. It sounds like "nooOOO."

2475. Bethany doesn't get upset anymore when we leave her in the nursery at church.

2474. Getting the kitchen cleaned up tonight so we will have a smoother start of school tomorrow.

2473. Free hotdogs.

2472. Hotdogs with onions, relish, and mustard.

2471. Hugs and concern from two ladies at church this morning and one of the ushers. And pastor Larry prayed for me too.

Saturday, August 26, 2006

2470

2470. Getting Jonathan's hair cut without too much fussing on his part.

2469. A long nap.

2468. Taking the kids to a neighborhood block party that Paul was working at.

2467. Getting our school space mostly situated.

2466. And I found a use for that chair someone gave us that we wondered what are we going to do with this?

2465. The library got in a bunch of books that I requested for schooling and they gave me this grocery-type basket to hold them all in. Kinda cute.

2464. Getting excited about school.

2463. My husband works and provides for our family.

2462. Chatting with my mom and sister last night.

2461. The kids got these balloon creations that they really loved at the block party.

2460. I was able to draw upon my experience working on the boardwalk in Ocean City, NJ this evening, when they didn't know how to work the cotton candy machine.

2459

2459. Lake House. Great movie.

2458. Two movie tickets for $5. Can't beat a second-run movie theater.

2457. Milk Duds for dinner.

2456. Paul got the brake light on the van fixed.

2455. We got to see our neighbors this evening. They came over for a bit for the first time since their little girl was born.

2454. And when they came in the house, it wasn't like here, let me make a path for you to walk through the living room. Fly Lady has me with a fairly presentable house, even when folks drop by uninvited.

2453. Holding TINY babies.

2452. The Qs took care of our kids again tonight so Paul and I could go out. The kids had a great time.

2451. Mr. Q was wearing a pair of snazzy sneakers. I had to explain to him what the bright red "SHAQ" across the tongue meant.

2450. I got the van's rear-view mirror re-adhered to the windshield.

2449. Bethany went out into the road after a ball tonight despite the fact that Paul and I were both out in the front yard with the kids (albeit distracted by the brake light repair.) She was not hurt.

2448. Jonathan's excitement as he worked through a preschool learning game on the computer this afternoon. And he picked it up fast, which impressed me.

2447. My children were bathed today. Small miracle.

Thursday, August 24, 2006

2446

2446. Going to dinner with my family.

2445. And to the soccer game where my bro-in-law was coaching.

2444. This evening, Jonathan questioned Paul to see if he was going the right way to the restaurant. After Paul reassured him that he was going the right way, Jonathan replied, "if you say so." I was so surprised to hear him say this, I almost busted out laughing.

2443. A coupon for $25 off of our groceries just for getting a prescription filled at our regular grocery store.

2442. And the prescription just went generic, too.

2441. AND, when I paid for it, another voucher was printed for me to get a $10 coupon if I refill the prescription there too.

2440. Seeing my sister-in-law at the soccer game.

2439. Watching Bethany as she looked up at the game, noticed all the bugs swarming by the field lights, and seeing her face light up with excitement as she pointed and said "aaaaaaaaaaah!"

2438. Free paper in exchange for empty ink cartridges from the printer.

2437. 40% off coupons at the craft store.

2436. Milkshakes.

Wednesday, August 23, 2006

2435

2435. A swim suit for Lainee on clearance.

2434. Lainee LIKES the swim suit that was on clearance.

2433. Shirts on clearance for me.

2432. My two oldest kids asleep in the same bed.

2431. Strawberries.

2430. Coupons for the craft store.

2429. Reading John Piper.

2428. Sitting at the park with Lainee, for over an hour, making leaf rubbings, looking through a field guide, and trying to identify some of the trees that were there. We only did three.

2427. New pony tail holders that hold my hair well.

2426. Getting some work done on some baby albums that I would like to give as gifts.

2425. Okay, the other night when I went shopping, I knew that we needed syrup. As I was writing my list, I remember thinking it would be so like God to make syrup be on sale this week. It was.

2424. I went to the library all by myself last night!

2423. Giving stuff away so other people can use it.

2422. Learning.

2421. Inspiration from other bloggers to do something new, and having it end up making my life a lot nicer.

Tuesday, August 22, 2006

2420

2420. A conversation I overheard today:
Lainee: "Jonathan, can you help me with this?"
Jonathan: "Of COURSE!"

2419. A picnic in the park.

2418. And, as we were about to leave for the picnic, sans Paul because we expected him to be working with his dad for a few more hours, Paul pulled in the driveway. So we all went together.

2417. Lainee packed the whole lunch herself, except for my sandwich and the banana I threw in just in case Bethany rejected everything else.

2416. The kids and Paul went off to play by the swings, and I stayed behind to throw all the rest of the junk in a bag and fold up the blanket. As I started toward the swings, I was met by Jonathan, who quickly grabbed the blanket and said, "I can carry it, mom."

2415. My health.

2414. Getting caught up in the kitchen. It was getting out of control.

2413. I found the issue of McCall's Quick Quilts that I need.

2412. It's quiet in my house right now.

2411. Read a book about how fruit grows from flowers to the kids. Then we went out and looked at the parts of whatever flowers we could find, including the tomatoes and cucumbers, which were perfect examples of what we'd just read.

2410. Then Lainee and I did leaf rubbings. She is really into identifying leaves.

Monday, August 21, 2006

2409

2409. A nice e-mail from Addie today. Isn't it nice when people take a minute to say, "hey, I was thinking about you"?

2408. Bethany says "mommy" and "daddy" as clear as you can imagine. Cute. She also says "uppy" when she wants to be held.

2407. Four helpers to unload the groceries from the car.

2406. Oreos.

2405. Remembering to get diapers before I left the grocery store tonight.

2404. BEAUTIFUL weather today.

2403. The offer of a chest freezer.

2402. The offer of a desk.

2401. Lipton Noodles that I forgot I had.

2400. Dinner on the back patio.

2399. And three kids who all wanted to help get everything ready.

2398. We found a cucumber, fully grown, that we didn't even know was growing.

2397. Chatting with my daughter on the way home from the grocery store. She was saying some things that made it obvious that some of her thinking/reasoning skills are really developing.

2396. Getting most of the planning done and books requested for the first 6 weeks of school. Including the schedule of devotions I want to do with Lainee.

2395. I happened upon a book in the kids' section at the library with pictures of all sorts of tree leaves. Lainee was just asking if we could learn about different kinds of tree leaves.

2394. Setting up a tour at the fire department. The fire chief was very accomodating. He said, "just tell me the day and time." So I did!

2393. Enjoying the free coffee from Borders today.

2392. And the cheesecake too.

2391. Found a pair of clearance swim trunks for Jonathan (for next year) for $1.70

2390. I was also looking for a baby gift, and found a Carter's outfit for the same amount.

2389. 5% off of groceries.

2388

2388. Fellowship with a bunch of folks after church this evening.

2387. Watching Bethany try to run.

2386. Getting some work done for my committee at church.

2385. Gearing up for some extended alone time tomorrow.

2384. A coupon for a free drink at Borders.

2383. Lots of tips from Helen about teaching reading.

2382. LOTS of people pregnant at church.

2381. My husband made me French toast again today.

2380. Brownies.

2379. Sitting in the sanctuary this evening and looking at my son's tiny little body curled up next to me trying to keep warm in the air conditioning.

2378. Kids falling asleep fast.

2377. Lainee invited the neighbor girl to church this evening, and she came!

2376. And Lainee's prayer request for this evening was that the family that lives across the street from us would come to church too.

Saturday, August 19, 2006

2375

2375. My washing machine.

2374. My dryer.

2373. My dishwasher.

2372. My refrigerator.

2371. My computer.

2370. My microwave.

2369. My vacuum cleaner.

2368. The chicken we had for dinner this evening.

2367. That was cooked in my oven.

2366. A pecan mudslide from Dairy Queen.

2365. Kiwi fruit.

2364. Hanging out with Lainee today.

2363. Tylenol.

2362. Watching Bethany and Jonathan play in the bathtub this evening.

2361

2361. A great message at church on Sunday morning.

2360. And evening.

2359. The feeling I got kissing my family goodbye last night.

2358. Sitting with them at Frisch's, eating dinner, and having a good time.

2357. Being told by some older folks that our children are well-behaved.

2356. Watching the kids get SO EXCITED when Mrs. Q walks past.

2355. And seeing them as they run to her with hugs at the ready.

2354. Remembering my sister's birthday.

2353. Going out to do some errands and taking Lainee with me. Chatting with her in the car. Hearing her say, "I like spending time with you."

2352. She counted backward today just by me asking "what is one less than..." after each number. She did it a lot faster than I thought she'd be able to, like she didn't even need to think about it.

2351. How excited can one 5-year-old get about making a construction paper chain that stretches across the family room? Very. She gets one new link every time she reads a new book on her own.

2350. The girl is so excited for school that she VOLUNTARILY started cleaning out her desk (which has been overflowing with clutter for several months.)

2349. The fact that she took the initiative to throw some things out (some of the same things she was crying about NEEDING a few weeks ago) tells me that she is getting better at letting go of some of the junk.

2348. And the kids' room is still clean.

2347. Several great ideas from friends that we can look into as we think about a project for the family room.

2346. Lainee read two books to me today.

2345. Going to my in-laws' house yesterday and having dinner.

2344. Seeing Bethany get all excited about going in the pool.

2343. My FIL wanting to watch Jonathan give hugs and kisses to Paul.

2342. Got a bunch of our "China" scrapbook done last night. It's almost finished.

2341. Wendy's for dinner tonight.

2340. And nothing spilled.

2339. A long nap today.

2338. Oh, my, taco night was a hit.

2337. Paul took Bethany with him to the post office today. This was helpful since I was dealing with two other children having tantrums at the time.

2336. IMing with Marcy today, even though it was cut short by (another) tantrum.

2335. Paul got in a good bit of work this summer, which has given the bank account a needed boost.

2334. And earned him another social security credit, which he was hoping for.

2333. Hearing about friends coming to clearer discernment about where God may be taking them in the next few years.

2332. Hearing the same friend repeatedly mention that the possibility of adopting keeps entering her mind.

2331. Lainee wanted to make a book the other day. We each made one for each other. Mine was all about her and how much I loved her. She liked reading it.

2330. Got to go to a get-together with my future Sunday school class. Nice conversation and a break from the kids. (And dessert too.)

2329. Friendly's just opened a new restaurant by the mall. I like Friendly's. And I like that mocha chip ice cream cone I got there on Monday night too.

2328. And I like that my husband reads my blessings list, even though right now he is probably thinking, "she didn't bring any ice cream back for ME!"

2327. Scrapbooking time with the girls this week.

2326. Mozilla Firefox.

2325. Writing letters to people.

2324. And having enough stamps to send out as many as I want, thanks to Paul's post office visit.

2323. I taught Bethany how to say "Oh, yeah!" and pump her arm. It sounds like she says, "yeah, yeah," but it is really cute.

2322. I found a cool craft idea that is USEFUL (my new requirement) in the Family Fun magazine. Lainee will love it.

2321. My children are healthy.

2320. Paul is healthy.

2319. I am healthy.

2318. Our family got to hang out with Jeff, Helen, and Kyla for a picnic dinner at the arboretum.

2317. Painting with the kids.

2316. Ink comes off of skin. Eventually, anyway.

2315. My back-ordered teacher's edition book was delivered this week.

2314. Oh, the excitement of one simple wall calendar. It's the classroom kind. The kids got to put the numbers on it. SUCH AMAZING FUN!

2313. And the words that I hung up all around the family room and kitchen (such as: wall, window, oven, table, etc...) well, that could not have been any cooler! Lainee exclaimed, "can I find them ALL?" When I told her she could, she ran into the living room to get Jonathan saying, "Jonathan, come see what mom did. Come see!" My word, the excitement was just too much.

2312. Bethany will do whatever Jonathan does. It's sweet.

2311. And she is getting better at enduring hugs from Lainee.

2310. Ordering photos online. So. Easy.

2309. Spanish rice.

2308. My husband made me French toast on Tuesday morning.

2307. Colby-Jack cheese.

2306. I finally got those pictures of our CT trip mailed out to my family (again, thanks to Paul's trip to the post office.)

2305. A BUNCH of morning glories all blooming on the fence in the front yard.

2304. I learned that two ladies at church are expecting. Both have the same due date.

2303. My BF from high school just had her first baby this past week.

2302. I like our house. I am really thankful for it.

2301. Laughing out loud at this post by Boomama.

Sunday, August 13, 2006

2300

2300. Making money from decluttering. We got $10 from Half Price Books for the two boxes we sold to them.

2299. Lainee helped Jonathan clean something up today, totally voluntarily. (He was not allowed out of his room until he put away all the clothes he had removed from his drawers and thrown out of his room. He was very overwhelmed by the task, and rather whiney about it.) I praised her all over for this. Told her I was proud of her. I could tell she was proud of herself too.

2298. Dinner out at a new restaurant.

2297. With Bill and Cindy.

2296. And Bethany laughed and played the whole time.

2295. A long nap for me.

2294. Two hour naps for Bethany every day for the last four days.

2293. Boxed up some clothes I need to clear out of my closet/dresser.

2292. Paul painted Lainee's fingernails today. How sweet is that?

2291. Sat out on the back porch today. In the quiet. All by myself.

2290. Then played a game of pick-up-sticks, and a game of Go Fish with Lainee.

2289. Pancakes.

Saturday, August 12, 2006

2288

2288. Icebox cake.

2287. Made by my daughter and her friend.

2286. The kids' room is STILL clean.

2285. And I vacuumed the living room for the SECOND TIME THIS WEEK. This can only mean that the mess on the floor has been fairly well contained for most of the week as well.

2284. The disgusting concoction that I came up with for dinner was well received by everyone (else) in the family.

2283. Jonathan wanted to make something out of cut-outs of the hands of every member of the family. I suggested a tree. So Lainee traced her arm for the trunk and branches. We all traced our hands and cut out two each. Glitter initials were applied to the kids' hands. Jonathan cut out what he says is a heart. We put the family name on that and glued it to the trunk. The tree was assembled with our hands as leaves. It is now proudly displayed on our front door.

2282. Glitter makes kids happy.

2281. I remembered to stop at the Oreck store to buy bags for the vacuum cleaner. It's a good thing cuz we really needed them.

2280. I got my hair washed and cut today. Love that.

Friday, August 11, 2006

2279

2279. Playing hide-and-go-seek with the kids.

2278. Dishes done.

2276. Sugar-free candy.

2275. The smell of a kid after they get out of the bath.

2274. Cooler weather. Today was beautiful.

2273. A playdate yesterday. The kids got to swim.

2272. Another meal out on the back porch this evening.

Thursday, August 10, 2006

2271

Great dinner last night. Super steak on the grill (2248.) Kids ate seconds of veggies (2249), meat (2250), barley (2251.) We sat on the back porch (2252.) It even rained while we were out there. It was cool (2253.) And there weren't a lot of flies (2254.)

Lainee's school books arrived the other day and I started looking through them. Then I panicked because I couldn't find the teacher's edition that tells what lessons correspond from each book. I started thinking that I hadn't ordered it, and scolding myself with you were being so careful to look for everything you needed, how could you possibly forget to order that! THEN I had the presence of mind to check the packing slip and realized that I DID order the book, they just didn't send it yet (2255.)

I am actually getting more excited about homeschooling (2256.)

A cucumber has been harvested from the garden (2257.) Our first cucumber EVER! I made a cucumber/tomato salad that we like a whole lot (2258) with a tomato that we were given (2259) from our neighbor's garden.

And my in-laws sent corn (2260,) cucumbers (2261,) tomatoes (2262,) and onions (2263) home with Paul from their garden.

For the last two days, the Fly-Lady missions that she has us going on have been EXACTLY the thing I have thought I needed to do the night before (2264.)

Went out on some errands here in town with the kids this morning. I like doing that because it gives us something to DO (other than sitting in the house and watching TV) (2265) and it gets stuff done too (2266.)

Hooks for the kids' towels in their room (2267.)

Lainee has been missing my mother. I think that is sweet (2268.)

Squash casserole (2269.) And my neighbor giving me most of the ingredients for it (2270.)

Toilets that work (2271.)

Tuesday, August 08, 2006

2247

2247. I can get excited about something like beet greens.

2246. Another good walk this evening.

2245. I took the kids to church this morning to weed the flower beds. I love for them to be "helpers" but I love it even more when they enjoy it.

2244. Lainee had her first dinner guest over tonight. This child picked up her plate after dinner and put it in the sink. She also encouraged Lainee to obey me. MORE DINNER GUESTS FOR LAINEE!

2243. And when I went in Lainee's room after they'd been playing in it for a few hours, I found that HARDLY ANYTHING was out of place. First time for everything, eh?

2242. Paul got in some more hours working with his dad today.

2241. Half price hair and beauty items at the store this week.

2240. Not overeating.

2239. A good morning out with the kids.

2238. Three cucumbers close to being harvested!

Sunday, August 06, 2006

2237

2237. God reminding (and enabling) me to keep my cool when I think I am going to lose it with my kids.

2236. Cherry cordial ice cream from UDF.

2235. Working on the album of our trip to China.

2234. Green tea.

2233. Being reminded that I cannot achieve righteousness on my own. My penchant for doing what is smart or logical will not guarantee that I will acutally be in the will of God.

2232. Walking this evening.

2231. The smell of burning wood.

2230. New opportunities.

2229. God is dealing with me in a way that requires me to be more honest with myself about how much I care what other people think of me. And how I would sometimes even delight in others' failures or blame them for something if it would make me look better. The best part is that it is very freeing to just be honest with God about it. After that, deciding not to be so immature is much easier, and no one receives the fall out from it either.

2228. Sunday school was great today.

2227. I love my Sunday school class.

2226. Met a new couple at the church tonight and got to talk with them for quite a while.

2225. Lainee's room is still clean.

2224. Insect repellant.

Saturday, August 05, 2006

2223

2223. Making some crafts with Lainee, just the two of us, today.

2222. The massage my husband gave me this evening. He sometimes just walks up and starts working on my shoulders. I love that.

2221. The opportunity for creativity that homeshcooling affords.

2220. And flexibility too.

2219. Bethany will put anything away if I start singing Barney's "clean-up" song.

2218. For the first time, Bethany seemed content to play outside with J, L, and the neighbor girl without me having to be there every moment.

2217. Kids falling asleep on long rides home at bed time.

2216. My house.

2211

2211. Addison came through her heart surgery well.

2210. My friend Ami and her husband took their kids with them on a mission trip to Arizona, despite the disapproval from other folks.

2209. Thinking about the future.

2208. Getting Lainee's stuff under control in her room. It was quite a project, but she now has containers to store stuff in and, hopefully, this will mean she can keep things a bit neater in there.

2207. Jonathan doesn't remember every craft he has ever made in his lifetime. So, if I throw one his crafts out, he will likely never think of it again.

2206. Sitting with my whole family around a table eating donuts.

2205. Driving home from the donut shop and all five of us making that silly "flubbing" noise )when you run your finger up and down over your lips.)

2204. Clearing the bookshelves of a bunch of books that we are going to get rid of.

2203. Watching all three kids play this silly game involving running across the living room and crashing into the couch.

2202. Last night when I came home from my night out, I found the kids and Paul all camped out on the living room floor.

2201

2201. Seeing Helen tonight for the first time in a LONG time.

2200. The fact that Helen has stuck by me as a friend for so long has been a huge blessing for the last 11 years.

2199. Flavor Ice.

2198. Watching the kids at the county fair today as they checked out all the animals. I love to watch it, and I love that they are pleased to see God's creation and not have to be doing some super hyped thing to have a good time.

2197. Jonathan used the toilet at the fair today to do #2... which he has been putting in his underwear for the last two days.

2196. Jonathan to me: "Mom, you look cute in those sneakers."

2195. Rabbits. The rabbits were so fun to look at.

2194. We found the cows, after looking around for a while, just as we were about to leave.

2193. Swimming at the in-laws' house.

2192. Pushing the kids across the pool on rafts.

2191. And Bethany, in a SOLID sleep when we got there, finished her nap sprawled out on their living room floor.

2190. Napping on their couch with Jonathan.

2189. My MIL made dinner for us. Good stuff.

2188. Cheap food at the county fair.

2187. I found exactly the thing I was needing to store some manipulatives from Lainee's textbooks.

2186. Plastic organizers.

2185. Crayons on sale for CRAZY cheap.

2184. Getting rid of clutter by giving it to someone who can use it.

2183. Electricity.

2182. Air conditioning.
