1814

1814. My mom had J and L make a little book today. They enjoyed the process of adding stickers and pictures that she had collected for them.

1813. We had a reading of the books this evening. It was hilarious. The kids loved it.

1812. My parents and sister took the two older ones to go swimming today...

1811. While Paul, Bethany, and I napped.

1810. Mom and Dad treated the whole family to dinner out tonight.

1809. After we came home, Mom served up some ice cream cups for the kids....

1808. While Paul, Dad, and I went to a nearby joint for some "good" ice cream.

1807. I went out on an errand with my dad today. It was nice to be out and about in my old hometown....

1806. And to remember how my Dad makes it a point of learning people's names wherever he goes. The tellers at the bank. The woman at the bakery. Etc.

1805. Snuggling with Bethany tonight. We were holding hands for a while, which I don't get to do with her very often.

1804. Playing out on the lawn with my kids AND my parents.

1803. Seeing the kids run around my parents' house like they own the place... Maybe not always a good thing, but a sign, nonetheless, that they are comfortable here.

1802

1802. I found the pens I love. I haven't been able to find them in a very long time.

1801. Warm evenings with a cool breeze.

1800. Tucking Lainee into bed under the bedspread that was mine when I was little.

1799. In my old room.

1798. Seeing the "ornaments" that Lainee sent to grandma and grandpa hanging from a lamp in the living room.

1797. Pepsi.

1796. Patti taking J and L into wake up grandma this morning.

1795. Excited children jumping on the bed at the hotel.

1794. Hearing Lainee ask, repeatedly, if she and Krista could sit together at dinner.

1793. Then hearing them as they chatted with each other during dinner.

1792. Lainee's pride over the flowers she and grandma found for the centerpiece on the dinner table.

1791. Hearing Jonathan say "remember that silly store we went to," referring to the trip we took, TODAY, to Stew Leonard's.

1790. Then, on the way home from the store, hearing him say, "we need to tell grandma about this!"

1789. Jonathan's delight when he took grandma's suggestion to hold the bubble wand up to the air conditioner. Bubbles all over the living room.

1788. The gifts that mom had at the ready for the kids. Mostly books.

1787. None of my kids died (or became ill) after I let them eat the Teddy Grahams. The ones that I didn't realize had been on the floor of the pool area at the hotel.

1786. Time to read a book.

1785. Getting to watch a few good shows on TV at the hotel after everyone else went to sleep.

1784. My husband drove the whole way from OH to CT.

1783. Having a mom who is willing to snuggle with a five-year-old (who doesn't want to sleep "in this room") until she falls asleep. It was a long time.

1782. Being able to get through the situation with the van this week without feeling really stressed or angry.

1781. Paul saw Jonathan making his way into the pool without his floaties. I was able to jump in and pull him up fromt the water before anything bad happened.

1779. Watching the kids enjoy all the cheesy animatronic figures at Stew Leonard's.

1778. Seeing my sisters enjoying my children.

1771. Patti taking the kids to the park.

1770. Finding the shirt I needed for Jonathan for the family photo.

1767. Gift bags from Krista for each of the kids.

1766. Coffee. Decaf.

1765. Getting through the rain in PA before even the detours flooded. We could tell as we drove through that it wasn't going to be much longer.

1764. DVD players for cars.

1763. And the friends who let us borrow one.

1762. The few activities that I brought for the kids seemed to keep them fairly occupied in the DVD down time.

1761. Driving at night, even though it wasn't planned, means the kids are asleep. That is nice.

1760. Lainee's card for my birthday.

1749. Seeing the kids get so into helping grandma set the table and prepare food.

1748. Finding a new pair of jammies for Jonathan, which he really needed, at Penney's for 60% off.

1747. Then getting my sister's employee discount on top of that.

1746

1746. Started reading Charlotte's Web with the kids tonight. I was debating about reading it, because the death thing really makes them sad and I wondered if they were too young for that. But Paul mentioned it. And I am excited about wanting to read chapter books to them. So, we started tonight. Hoping the death of Charlotte isn't too traumatic for them.

1745. Evidence that God is working: I WANT to read a chapter book to my kids.

1744. Evidence that God is working: The first glimmers of excitement today as we started making some decisions about homeschooling curriculum for the fall.

1743. The homeschooler's conference that we went to today.

1742. Getting to eat a great lunch/dinner.

1741. Watching Bethany play cornhole tonight at church.

1740. Everyone did great at April and Larry's today while we were at the conference. Well, MY kids did great. One of THEIR kids had to go to the emergency room for stitches in her forehead.

1739. But two ladies from church came over to help Larry out with the five children that were left when April had to go to the ER. This was helpful not only to Larry, but also to us... so we could stay at the conference and get done what we needed to do. (Though Larry was not about to call us home, even if no one had come over to help. Bless his heart!)

1738. And the kids remembered to pray for the injured child this evening. That's a big deal, to me.

1737. Having moments when my thoughts are clear and being able to express them through writing.

1736

1736. Our neighbor girl enthusiastically joined us for VBS on for three nights this week. The kids are performing a song during the service on Sunday and she said her mom just "has to" come on Sunday to see it. I am praying that she does... and her dad too. They don't go to church.

1735. Hearing a kid tell me about his trip to North Carolina. He said that to get to NC, you can go down through the mountains, or you can do what they did and take the route that goes past Europe.

1734. Jonathan's heavy eyes this afternoon as I read him a story. He couldn't stay awake through all of it. But we had to go to VBS, so I didn't want him to get too fast into his sleep. I woke him up, and he promptly moved to the living room floor, where he fell asleep again. I woke him up again, and we left. He didn't sleep on the way to church, but he asked if he could sleep "all the way there" when I got him out of the car. In other words, he wanted me to carry him in so he could sleep on the (long, arduous) trek from the parking lot to the church.

1733. Ms. Vicki gave J the memory game that they'd played at VBS tonight after he had a break down (he was tired, see) because I came to get him before he could play it one more time.

1732. Those ladies who run the kitchen so all the VBS workers can eat... like, a meal if we want to.

1731. April and Larry, who agreed to watch the kids while Paul and I go to a homeschooling conference tomorrow. Oh, did I mention it is all day? Oh, and did I mention that I just asked them tonight? Yeah, big blessing.

1730. I am enjoying some reading and getting excited about some other books I want to tackle when I get done with the ones I'm working on.

1729. Bethany bugged Paul to take her outside for a walk three times tonight. He said she held one of his fingers and they just went a-walkin'.

1727. Kids playing outside.

1726. Finding something quick to make for dinner.

1725. Chatting and laughing with some of the VBS workers tonight.

1724. We lost power this morning during a pretty severe storm. It was restored within an hour of the storm moving past us.

1723. Paul's friend let us borrow his Car DVD player for our trip to CT.

1722. I painted my toenails. I don't normally do this. I like how it looks.

1721. Being honest before God.

1720. God has provided for all of my needs. Beyond my needs, actually. Way beyond.

1719. Hearing children say "please" and "thank you."

1718. I remembered to return the book I'd found before it was overdue at the library.

Tuesday, June 20, 2006

1717

1717. Hanging out with Shelby today.

1716. Shelby's edifying words to me.

1714. The jungle gym and play kitchen set that the neighbor girl brought over for us to have. Free.

1713. The arrival of my first Family Fun magazine.

1711. Psalm 34:5 - Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.

1710. Those coconut cookies at VBS tonight.

1709. I got some of my favorite BBQ sauce while I was visiting with Shelby today. (They only sell it in the small town where we met.)

1708. Our neighbor girl came with us to VBS tonight.

1698. Being reminded that I have skills as a teacher.

1697. Talking to Helen today, for the first time in a few weeks.

1696. A good emery board.

1695. Getting more concrete ideas about what I can do about poverty around the world.

1694. Lainee. My creative-my-stuff-never-looks-like-anyone-else's crafter.

Sunday, June 18, 2006

1693

1693. This blog has apparently inspired another. I think that is cool, because all the glory goes to God.

1692. Great chicken salad sandwiches for the VBS workers tonight.

1691. I have been learning about how much God actually enjoys me. It is blowing my mind to think that I am a delight to him. But I am. And I like that.

1690. AND, although I have "known" it in my head, I am just now starting to get it in my heart that God responds mercifully to those who fear him. He isn't going to belittle me or make me feel guilty about my junk. That is so amazing. And encouraging.

1689. My children are absolutely beautiful. I was looking at them last night at dinner and I just could not get over how special they are, each in a different way. Glad I get to be their mom.

1688. Bethany took two steps last night, repeatedly, but only two at a time. Today, she took five or six at a time. I think the kid is walking, folks.

1687. The woman at VBS who saved the last corner piece of the brownies for me because she knows those are my favorite.

1686. Being okay with missing some of the church service this morning when Bethany needed me in the nursery. Knowing that I am the one who can calm her. Getting to rock her and play with her hair while she laid on my shoulder. It's good stuff, y'all.

1685. Lunch at the in-laws' house today.

1684. Getting to give things to people who need them.

1683. Helping out at the MOPS sale yesterday. Having something useful to do that is also out of the ordinary is a nice thing, to me.

1682. Getting the logistics worked out for getting tables from our church, to the MOPS sale, and back again.

1681. Lyn and Jennifer, who helped me load and unload those tables.

1680. And not having to unload the tables when they went back to church, because my husband and Jake did it for me.

1679. Finding a pair of jammies from last year that still fit Jonathan. He needed some jammies, bad.

1678. A morning of going "garage sale-ing" is cheap entertainment for kids 5 and under.

1677. Finding a 25 cent toy that the boy REALLY wanted, as a reward for using the toilet.

1676. A really, really good baked potato. With butter and sour cream.

1675. Cindy took Lainee home from VBS tonight so we could drop off the van for service and return in the car (that won't fit all of the kids' carseats.)

1674. A box full of kindergarten "stuff" from a friend who used to teach.

1673. Walking the first graders through their craft tonight, and listening to them tell me whatever was on their mind after they got finished.

1672. The people who prepared for and are now teaching my kids at VBS.

1671. My "manual labor wounds" are healing nicely.

1670. Lainee is becoming much more sensitive to Bethany and is making more of an effort to be kind and helpful to her.

1669.Every night at bedtime, Bethany leans in for her goodnight hugs and kisses from L and J.

Friday, June 16, 2006

1668

1668. Shelby.

1667. Elisabeth and her hubby found a house. Their house here sold. These are such good things to have taken care of as they go through the process of relocating.

1666. Having friends to care about. Kristi and Elisabeth come to mind right now.

1665. Cheese and crackers.

1664. Kind comments from readers.

1663. Leftover dinner nights. Last night, the roast tasted better than it did the first time I served it!

1662. Bethany loves the shape sorter that I dug up from my stash in the garage.

1661. That show "Big Comfy Couch" is a hoot because Bethany loves the music in it and sways around, giggling, while listening to it.

1660. Jonathan deciding to use the toilet this evening.

1659. Finding some cheap play clothes for Jonathan at a garage sale.

1658. Finding my library card.

1652. Writing a letter.

1651. Getting some time to hang out with Ami and work on Lainee's scrapbook.

1650. Getting all of Lainee's 4 year old portrait poses onto one page. I was afraid I'd have to choose, and I couldn't figure out which ones I'd want to omit.

1649. Not having to stress over preparations for VBS.

1648. Finding two gifts for father's day relatively quickly and for not too much money.

1647. Not giving away that box of stuff before realizing that those two pairs of Paul's sneakers weren't supposed to be in there!

1646. A brand new Pampered Chef food chopper - never been out of the box - that I found at a garage sale today for $5. This is especially cool because my old (really old) one broke a few months ago. And the Kitchen Aid chopper that I bought to replace it broke also. The Pampered Chef chopper really is the best one around. But I was fixing to buy a Zyliss chopper (same company that makes them for PC) at a kitchen store whenever they had a coupon in the paper. But I didn't even have to do that! Go God!

1645. Finding Bethany's snuggler (which is a replacement of her original) in the neighbor's yard. We lost it on our walk today, and we retraced our steps to find it right near home.

1644. Bethany's wave.

Wednesday, June 14, 2006

1643

1643. Sitting next to my husband at church this evening.

1642. Getting a whole bunch of clothing and toys priced, packed up, and ready to LEAVE MY HOUSE.

1641. Giving some of it to my neighbor who is having her second baby in August.

1640. Her gift of hangers so that I could hang the rest of the clothes I had (which need to be on hangers to be sold at the MOPS Consignment sale.)

1639. Hanging out with her and her son while she picked out the clothes she thought her kids could use.

1638. Getting a kiss from Bethany today.

1637. Getting some time alone in the house to get some work done.

1636. Getting most of the mess I made today cleaned up.

1632. Helen.

1614. A nice fire to sit around with Paul... and Lainee, who just wanted to stay up.

1613. Getting time to myself at the fire after everyone else went to bed.

1612. The sleepiness that comes at the end of a full day.

1611. The lady that let Bethany pet her dog.

1610. The skunks we saw.

1609. The geese.

1608. S'mores... with kids who don't realize that, at the time, the fire wasn't hot enough to roast any marshmallows. They just ate and were happy.

1594. An idea, soon to be revealed, that I think is fun... and I am hoping other people do too.

1593. B.E.D.

Saturday, June 10, 2006

1592

1592. A manicure.

1591. A pedicure.

1590. A 1/2 hour massage. (All a Christmas gift from my BIL. I paid a whole $5, as a tip, and that was it.)

1589. Hanging out with my SILs and MIL for half the day.

1588. Coming home after being gone for 5 hours, and asking my husband if I could take a bath. Then, promptly getting in my jammies and going to bed until 8 pm. I weren't feeling so well. In fact, I was feeling awful. He just told me to sleep and took the kids out for dinner. (I feel much better now.)

1586. Watching Bethany play and be happy while the family all lounged around in the living room.

1585. Brocolli cheddar soup at Panera, paid for by my MIL.

1583. A change in schedule for next week worked out great for us, and now we won't be needing a babysitter for Tuesday evening.

Friday, June 09, 2006

1582

1582. Scripture.

1581. Got an unexpected visit from one of our Sunday school class members this evening. It really helped me get through the evening while Paul was gone.

1580. He asked about pictures from China. I had not realized he hadn't seen them. So, I loaded them into the DVD player and we watched them. Oh, man, remembering that time, and seeing how much Bethany has grown made me want to squeeze the stuffing out of her!

1579. Cake. Which I ate too much of. I think just the first piece or two was the blessing. The rest. Well, that was sheer gluttony.

1578. We went to the park with the kids today.

1577. Today, I got a chance to use two of the scriptures that I listed here.

1576. Tonight, when I read the story of David and Jonathan to the kids, Lainee started crying. She was very upset that they had to be separated. Jonathan (my son) told me, "she's crying." Then, as I comforted Lainee, he patted her back and stroked her hair.

1575. Talking with my husband and getting the little things resolved before they become big things.

1574. Today's weather: A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

Thursday, June 08, 2006

1572

1571. I got some time to play with Bethany while Paul took the other two on some errands with him.

1570. We ate out for dinner.

1567. Bethany's pig tails are very, very cute.

1566. Realizing that I will be able to help with the MOPS consignment sale, which I was really hoping to do.

1565. God reminded me of something yesterday when someone in the mall parking lot was being rude. I am so glad he reminded me, because I was really tempted to be rude back. But if I was, then I would have driven off, and the person would have seen the ichthus on the back of my car, and God would not be glorified. I held my tongue and realized that I just needed to pray for that person to be blessed. God confirmed this for me today when I read Matthew 5:44-45.

1564. God is showing me that I need to be more purposeful about teaching my children his word and his ways.

1563. I like who I am and I get excited when I think about all the things God could do with me.

1550. She is standing for longer and longer periods of time (still not very long, but I am so excited for her to be learning new things.)

1549. Bethany laughed over and over and over again when I hit my hand against the dryer. She just laughed so hard! Then she would lay her head on my shoulder, like she was just having so much fun.

1548. Going out with just the two of us for a little while today.

1547. Second-hand stores.

1546. Teddy Grahams.

1545. The kids were slated to go to the neighbors house tonight while I was at a meeting and Paul was golfing. They couldn't wait to go, so we went over a little early. I got out of there so fast, I was able to stop for an ice cream cone ALL BY MYSELF.

1544. Bethany did great at the neighbor's house.

1543. I found a generic version of the Mr. Clean magic erasers.

1542. Patience at dinner time this evening.

Monday, June 05, 2006

1525. Bethany was quite social this evening.

1524. 15 baptisms at church tonight.

1523. Hanging out after the evening service with friends, roasting hot dogs and eating s'mores.

1522. Another graduation party - that we found (before it ended) even though we didn't really know where it was when we left the house.

1521. Tonight, while I was snuggling with Jonathan, I told him some of my favorite things about him. One of them was when he says "thank you, mommy." Then he said, "you know what is my favorite?" And I said, "what?" He said, "when you say 'you're welcome.'!"

1520. Bethany wore this cute little blueberry dress today. So very cute.

1519. Another walk this evening.

1518. In the cool, night air. Beautiful weather.

1517. And, even though I turned my ankle, I didn't injure it.

1516. Before I left, Lainee asked for a hug and a kiss.

1515. All the bloggin' ladies who said they'd pinkie swear with me! So sweet to me, they are...

1514. And that turkey sandwich I ate for lunch today was YUMMY!

1513

1513. I spent the better part of the day hanging out with my church family at two different graduation open houses.

1512. Playing hide-and-go-seek and sliding down the slide with my kids at the playground.

1511. Bethany tried again today to stand up without holding on. So far these attempts seem to occur with about a month of none in between. We'll see if she is getting any closer to walking here soon.

1510. I took napS today. Plural. I think all that walking last night wiped me out.

1509. And Paul didn't come into the bedroom and declare that it was his turn. He just watched the kids while I lazed.

1508. Watching my kids throw a ball for our friend's dog to catch.

1507. Meatballs.

1506. You know, the sky was absolutely gorgeous last night.

1505. And the breeze felt wonderful.

1504. I discovered that one egg has only 68 calories! Who'd a thunk?

1503. It appears that after about a half hour crying jag, the baby child has now decided to go to sleep.

1502. Sitting on the back porch this afternoon, sipping green tea, and reading Isaiah.

1501. Getting the kids to bed early again tonight... and they went right to sleep.

1500

1500. Last night I got the chance to rock my son to sleep. I didn't quite wait till he was all the way asleep, but I rocked him. And it was fun to snuggle him while he wanted to be snuggled.

1499. I left the house tonight to run an errand and decided to nix it when I felt how cool and beautiful it was outside. I did some brisk walking for about 40 minutes, and it felt good.

1498. It's a good thing I went out, though, because the overhead light was on in the car and I was able to shut it off before it ran down the battery.

1497. As I was walking, I had a sense of my surroundings that I cannot really describe. I felt totally at home, yet strangely out of place. I didn't do too much thinking about it. I just enjoyed feeling the way I felt.

1496. I passed by some guy as he told his friend that he thought he was going to be sick. So, one blessing is that I have not been sick in a long time.

1495. And another blessing is that, unlike those grade school days, I have figured out how to not feel sick to my stomach when running or power walking.

1494. I have legs that can take me where I want to go.

1493. I live in a great neighborhood where I can feel safe walking by myself at night.

1492. Paul came home early today.

1491. And track season is over. It isn't like I am overjoyed about that. I just like having him around more often.

1490. We managed to get the kids in bed a little earlier tonight. Hoping that becomes a regular thing.

1489. Everyone ate the dinner I made this evening without much complaint.

1488. Bethany and I played this game in which I would ask her if I could take a nap. She would nod "yes." Then I would point my finger and tell her not to wake me up. She'd point back. Then I'd tell her she better not wake me up and I'd say "Okay?" She'd nod yes. Then I'd pretend to fall asleep and start snoring. She'd wake me up, I'd make a big fuss, she'd laugh and laugh. (The we would do the whole thing again.)

1487. At night when we pray, Bethany has started to put her hands together like she is praying too.

1486. And I think she is trying to say "woof" when we ask her what a dog says.

1485. She scooted off the patio today and onto the grass so she could reach into the kiddie pool and use a bowl to dump water all over herself. She had a great time with that. I was glad to see that she is starting to move herself where she wants to go when she wants to be entertained.

1484

1484. The kitchen sink is clear (though not clean,) the counters and stovetop are wiped down, and the floor is swept (though desperately in need of a mop.) That and a few other things took me less than an hour to do, but they'd gotten away from me. And I am SO GLAD they are done.

1483. I found the two attachments to the canister vac that the kids had "lost."

1482. I am eating raw cake batter.

1481. I got a cute new purse with the gift card I got for giving that talk a few weeks ago.

1480. And a new wallet too. With enough photo spaces to carry separate pics of my kids. No more LOSER MOM for me, I tell ya!

1479. Lainee had a slight fever today, and another "symptom." But she has been in good spirits and is a big girl, which helps when kids are sick.

1478. Bethany's cast was removed and the doctor said that it looked like her arm had healed well.

1477. The great thing about kids having allergy attacks is that I can give them Benadryl at night.

1476. I can go hang out in my room tonight without worrying about waking Paul up.

1475. My children are all alive.

1474. I got a love letter from my husband last night.

1473. The theme party catalog from Oriental Trading was a huge entertainment to the kids today. Even Bethany.

1471, 1472. The fish we ate tonight was tasty. And Jonathan asked for more of the salad from last night!

1470. I napped today. I nap almost every day. But today I *really* needed it.

1469. I figured out that I can pull the drawer under the stove off its hinges. This make retrieving the items that have migrated under the stove so much easier!

1468. It is getting easier and easier to come up with ten (or more) blessings each night. It was sometimes a struggle at the beginning. I guess recognizing blessings is a bit of a habit after all, eh?
